About ISKCON Nagarabhavi

In the year 1999, started from a public temple situated in Saane Guruvana village, by 2 initiated devotees and this movement had only 10 to 12 preachers at that time. And Krishna Janmashtami programme organized with the limited resources, saw participation of nearly 3000 devotees and all of them took prasadam also. Year on year our yatra saw increase in number of devotees who were attending Bhagavad-Gita programme and, in the year of 2008, Ratha yatra which spanned over 8 KM route got organized in large scale. Due to the effect of this Rathayatra programme, Bhagavad-Gita programme also became famous and regular sessions were conducted in many areas of Bangalore like Basaveshwara Nagar, Kamakshipalya, Laggere, Avenue Road, Magadi road, Channenahalli.

2015 Sri Krishna Janmashtami programme was organized at nearby marriage hall in a grand manner with the coordination of 30 committed devotees. Nearly 8000 local people attended the programme and took part in preaching programmes and also honoured prasadam.

Our Mission and Values

Along with all these developments, 10 committed devotees took first initiation in 2015. Along with initiation, they had to carry responsibility on their shoulders. During the Nagar Sankirtan programme as a part of inviting people to the 2016 Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebration, we met with a person who asked couple of questions like “Who are you? What is your purpose?”. This question was answered by our newly initiated devotee explaining them purpose of ISKCON Nagarabhavi yatra.  Post this the same person informed us that they have Krishna temple in nearby locality where regular worship of the deity is not happening. If we request your yatra to take over the responsibility of that temple, are you ok to do it? Our preacher devotees when and saw the temple from a distance and informed to the person that we will discuss this matter with our senior devotees. After few months 4 to 5 devotees from our yatra visited the temple decided to have discussion with owner of the temple. Discussion with owner of the land went on for a duration of 4 years. Finally in 2020, there was an agreement signed between the Radha Madhav Spiritual Trust(part if ISKCON Nagarabhavi) and land owner and renovation of the temple took place at the expense of 40 lakh rupees. From 2021 onwards officially ISKCON Nagarabhavi preaching activities are being conducted with Doyal Nitai Gaurahari in the Sri Krishna temple.

Inspiring Devotion

Our Community

Post observing the programmes conducted by ISKCON Nagarabhavi in this temple, local people were overwhelmed. They went on to say that, before our Yatra took over the temple, for approximately about 30 years our Krishna was like locked in Mathura jail. But now Mathura jail has become Vrindavan. ISKCON programmes which are being conducted here, especially Sunday feast programme and special festival programmes, makes them feel like they are in Goloka Vrindavan. They say that they never imagined this would happen one day and they are blessed to witness this.

We celebrated first Sri Krishna Janmashtami here in the year of 2021. Approximately 4000 people participated in this event and took darshan and prasadam. We had some challenges while organising our 2021 Janmashtami here. But we took lessons from this and 2022 Janmashtami was much bigger and well-planned celebrations. Like in Matsyavatara God grows in the form of fish, he kept on increasing the number of devotees visiting this temple. Effect of the same was observed during 2024 Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations, when nearly 10000 people took darshan and prasadam and queue was nearly half a kilometre long.

Spiritual Legacy

In this way from past 25 years, like a raw fruit hiding behind the tree, approximately 30 initiated devotees who are doing door to door preaching and more than 300 devotees who believe in Prabhupada’ s philosophy, INSKM has grown to this level. As Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says “yāre dekha, tāre kaha ‘kṛṣṇa’-upadeśa” and as dasaru says “Why not chant Krishna when you got this human body and tongue”, INSKM is moving towards spreading the same message to more and more number of human beings and making their lives happy and will keep on focussed on this mission.
